Paddling - Naples Coast

Paddling - Naples Coast

My last few hours in Naples were, without a doubt, the best. As we were walking along the coast, we found a man with paddle boats. Before I even finished asking the question, he picked me up and put me on his boat. Chrissy was next and then with a push, we were off... Before we knew it, we were paddling through the waters of Naples for only 10 euros.

After our paddle boat adventure, Chrissy and I dined at an outdoor restaurant beside the water. It was beautiful weather and my four-cheese pasta was delicious.

Breakfast Stop

Breakfast Stop

Our third day in Naples started off with a light breakfast at the Shabby Caffe. I enjoyed my usual latte macchiato and a small creme puff.

La Piazza del Plebiscito

The third day of my trip including a stop at the Piazza del Plebiscito, which includes Palazzo Reale and the Basillica of San Francesco di Paola. Above is an inside look at the royal palace.

Above is a picture of me on the second day of my trip to Naples. I am standing next to a lion statue in the Naples Archeology Museum. The museum is full of very beautiful, famous artworks and statues.

Naples Apartment

Naples Apartment

Here, is only a small sample view of the eight flights of stairs I climbed to get to my apartment in Naples each day.

Pictured above is a glimpse at my cheap AirBnb. The bed was quite snug for two people, but after all of the walking Chrissy and I did each day, we were happy to hop in bed and get snuggly...

"Sexy Coladas"

"Sexy Coladas"

On the second night in Naples, I tried my first piña colada that had a layer of chocolate powder a flower on top. Additionally, the drink came with some light aperitivo snacks.

First Pizza in Naples

First Pizza in Naples

This was my first pizza I tried in Naples and it was amazing. It consists of basil, tomato sauce, and fresh mozzarella cheese. We were even special enough to receive our pizzas in the shape of a heart!

Scallops

Scallops

I ordered this dish anticipating tasty, seared seafood scallops. To my surprise, scallops in Italy are much different. I was not feeling adventurous enough to try this dish, but Chrissy enjoyed it!

Naples Artwork

Naples Artwork

During my exploration throughout the city, I learned that artwork in Naples is extremely unique. The art above, drawn on a building, is fairly representative of the unusual artistic style that is incorporated throughout traditional Naples homes.

Napoli Sotterranea

On the first day, I decided to explore the Napoli Sotterranea exhibition. The tour guided us through a network of tunnels and cavities underground Naples.

Salted Caramel Gelato

Salted Caramel Gelato

Salted caramel gelato from a local gelateria was the perfect end to my second night in Naples.

Gino Sorbillo's Pizza

Gino Sorbillo's Pizza

The trip to Naples would not not have been complete with trying Gino Sorbillo's famous pizza. Sorbillo's thin, fluffy crust and flavorful tomato sauce makes this pizza (in my opinion) the best in Italy. Fortunately for me, he owns pizzerias in both Milan and New York, as well.

Traditional Baba

Traditional Baba

After Chrissy insisted, I finally tried a traditional, baba from Napoli. These light, odd-looking desserts can be found at any shop in the city. They come in a variety of flavors and are very popular. While taking my first giant bite, I was extremely shocked to find out they are drenched in rum. Beware if you try one!

Italian Coffee

Italian Coffee

No matter how many times I order a coffee in Italy, I always experience extreme culture shock when I receive one this size. At this moment, I missed tall caramel frappuccino's (light with whipped creme).

Naples

Naples

The first stop on my 20th birthday trip was Naples (Napoli), Italy. Chrissy and I packed our suitcases and one carry-on, then headed off to our first destination by plane. We arrived at the airport very early for our 10am flight and luckily I did not get internationally detained for accidentally bringing a steak knife in my suitcase. Not sure how that got there, to be honest. Our AirBnB in Naples was a tucked-away, traditional-seeming Naples apartment. It was admittedly sketchy, lacked wifi and hot water, and required a climb up 8 flights of stairs. To my surprise, though, we made it through the 3 days without being kidnapped by the mafia.

During the trip we sampled Gino Sorbillo's famous pizza, traditional baba dessert, and "sexy coladas" sprinkled with chocolate and flowers. Our daytime adventures included exploring underground Naples, the Pompeii Ruins, Museo Cappella Sansevero, the Naples Archeology Museum, Piazza del Plebiscito, and a boat ride along the coast. Overall, the city itself was very dirty and residential (no tourists), but the pizza is the best in Italy and the experience of paddling through the coast was incredible.
