This weekend I decided to take another day trip through northern Italy to see lovely Verona. The city was only about an hour away by train, so I got an early start to the day and headed from Milano Centrale to Porta Nuova di Verona. The main sites of the city were about a 30-minute walk from the station, but the walk flew by after running into Matt (a fellow Long Islander) also taking a day-trip to Verona!
There were many beautiful bridges and sights to see in Verona, but the first stop was Piazza dell Erbe. Restaurants and markets filled the square; it was a very lively spot to start with and do a little browsing. During the afternoon, I made stops at the Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia, Duomo di Verona, Teatro Romano, Chiesa di Santa Maria, and more. Most importantly, I even stopped by the house's of Romeo and Juliet. Verona is home to a number of churches and historic architectural structures that are over 2,000 years old, so there was a lot to fit in one day.

For the later portion of the day, I migrated over to Museo di Castelvecchio and the connecting Ponte Scaligero, shown in the video above. The castle contained both authentic passageways to wander through and artwork to observe. It was a very unique place with artifacts including a sword collection and sapphire jewels. Admittedly, though, I was a bit hostile that I was the only person forced to leave their handbag in a locker. After causing a small commotion over the matter, I found it a bit overdramatic to find myself being followed from room to room by a guard, while simply trying to observe the art.
