Rome

After a half-day in Naples, Chrissy and I dragged our suitcases and bags for 40 minutes, on cobblestone streets, until we reached Naples Central Station and headed to Rome. The train ride was super quick and after our tough living accommodations in Naples, we were relieved to enter our adorable AirBnb in Rome. There were snacks, a bottle of wine, drawers for our clothing, a larger bed, hot water, and wifi.

Immediately, we set out the first night to find the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.  I made my wish after throwing a coin in the Fountain and then proceeded on to nearly slip and fall, while taking a picture, by the water in front of the Spanish Steps.

Dinner consisted of roast chicken and dessert featured a warm creme brûlée and 5-euro to-go cocktail. We explored the city a bit more after dinner, as we were only about a 15 minute walk from our apartment. It was a fantastic first night!

The second day in Rome started at 10 AM. We walked to Colosseum and waited on line for hours to get our ticket. There were a number of line cutters, but safe to say (as usual) none of them got past me. An audio tour guided us around the structure and after a few hours, the weather shifted from dark and overcast, to warm and sunny. I enjoyed my favorite lunch at a small restaurant outside of the Colosseum: fettuccine with creamy truffle sauce and a toasted bruschetta with mozzarella, garlic, and chopped tomato.

The day continued with a grueling walk up Palatine Hill and through the Roman Forum. Both were must-see sites, but involved a tremendous amount of up-hill climbing. The architecture was amazing and featured below. You can even see the picture where my legs gave out and I slipped onto the ground off from a rock.

The third day, MY BIRTHDAY, was another great day. After traveling to Vatican- apparently it's own city, so I gave it its own section- Chrissy and I toured Saint Angelo's Castle, sprinted to the Pantheon minutes before it closed, then ended the day with two birthday desserts. At the first restaurant, I enjoyed a birthday cheesecake (with candles) and Chrissy sang "happy birthday" in Chinese.

The second stop was where I finally ate the birthday tiramisu I had been waiting for, while sitting fireside at an outdoor restaurant. Safe to say, it was one of the best birthdays I have ever had.
